Does a hair transplant hurt?

The procedure is minimally painful, and the pain is only of administering the local anaesthetic. Your pain is managed so you feel comfortable and pain free during the procedure. During the second part of the procedure patients usually watch TV and movies whilst it’s being carried out.

What is the recovery time?

The recovery time is relatively quick. Some patients will return to work on day three after surgery. If it’s an office job they might be able to return to work the next day. FUT surgery does need more recovery time and it is recommended to take two weeks off work for this.

How much does a hair transplant cost?

A procedure can cost from as little as £2500 for 1000 grafts. The prices can go up to £6000 for a large area which needs to ne restored. Sometimes the surgeon may suggest two procedures if you have extensive hair loss. As this is a permanent procedure it is important to get this right as mistakes cannot be rectified.

There are some surgeons who only specialise in FUT or Strip surgery which is the older kind of surgery. This is unshaven and does leave a permanent scar on the back of the head. the more modern technique is called FUE surgery. Is a hair transplant permanent?

The simple answer is yes it’s permanent. Most people are absolutely delighted with their results. If you want to maintain the density of your hair transplant it is really important to keep all options open to restore and retain your existing hair especially if you are predisposed to male pattern hair loss. Only the transplanted hair will be permanent the rest of the hair will continue to fall out unless you take preventative measures.

What hair restoration options are available to me?

If you are a woman then topical solutions my be the answer. These are called Regaine or Minoxodil 2%. For men the percentage of Minoxodil is 5%. This can be bought over the counter. Many people fiind this helpful to preventing hair loss but after two years it can stop working. If this happens what are the solutions? Well you can consider PRP and this is completely natural and very effective at restoring miniaturised hair. Many patients find it helpful in thickening hair and immediately preventing hair shedding. Hair loss medication tablets

Another option for men who suffer from male pattern baldness is to consider hair loss medication tablets. These are known as DHT blockers and are prescription only. Many men find these really helpful in restoring thickness and density in the hair especially the crown area.
